2 Stage Wins For Sanchez at Romandie!

29 apríla 2012

Rabobank rider Luis Léon Sanchez racked up his second consecutive stage win at the Tour de Romandie stage race Saturday, climbing to the top of the GC standings for a day before Sunday’s closing time trial.

Sanchez fought hard to take the queen stage of this important six-day WorldTour race, benefitting from some terrific teamwork to cap off a successful week for Rabobank. The 184km Stage 4 from Bulle to Sion featured three Category 1 climbs and one Category 2 climb. Rabobank put men in all the key breaks, and in the end helped chase down a dangerous 12-man break in the final kilometers to give Sanchez a shot at the win.

Once he was in position, Sanchez took care of the rest, powering to the line on his Giant TCR Advanced SL and beating out the group of 38 who survived the hills at the front of the race. The two consecutive stage wins earned the Spaniard the overall lead for a day, before British TT specialist Bradley Wiggins took it back in Sunday’s final uphill time trial.
