Rabobank riders Robert Gesink and Lars Boom finished the Tirreno-Adriatico stage race on a high note Tuesday, scoring podium finishes in the final time trial stage and the final General Classification.
Boom powered his Trinity Advanced SL TT bike to a second-place finish in the 9.3km time trial in San Benedetto del Tronto. The strong ride put the finishing touches on an impressive week for the Dutch rider—he also wore the leader’s jersey for a day after Rabobank won the Stage 1 team time trial.
Gesink also put in an impressive ride Tuesday, showing he can time trial with the sport's top stage-race contenders. He was fastest among the GC favorites, moving up to finish second overall behind Australian Cadel Evans.
The Rabobank team now turns its attention to Milan-San Remo, the March 19 Italian spring classic. The team’s veteran sprinter Oscar Freire will be gunning for a fourth win at the 298km classic.
