8 октября 2011
Rabobank rider Bauke Mollema scored a podium finish in Italy Saturday, finishing second in the Giro dell’Emilia one-day race.
Mollema, who has broken out this season with a number of big results including his impressive fourth place overall at the Vuelta a España, won a two-man battle for second place on Saturday, powering his Giant TCR Advanced SL past Colombian Rigoberto Uran on the uphill finish in Bologna. The Dutch Rabobank rider was part of a five-man group that finished 24 seconds behind the day’s winner, Colombian Carlos Alberto Betancur.
Mollema’s podium finish at the 101-year-old Giro dell’Emilia was the third straight for Rabobank. His teammate Robert Gesink, currently sidelined with a fractured leg, won the race in 2009 and 2010.
