Video Contest Winner Announced!
3 iulie 2012
Six weeks ago, Giant, the official bike partner of the Whistler Mountain Bike Park, asked readers of Pinkbike.com to create and submit videos that showed the people, places and things that inspire them to ride mountain bikes.
The contest, called “Ride Giant. Ride Whistler”, offered an enticing grand prize to the creator of the best video: a trip to British Columbia to see the Crankworx event and to ride the greatest mountain bike park on the planet. Plus a brand new Giant Glory frameset.
The response to the contest was overwhelming. More than 150 videos were submitted, from riders all around the world. The stories, the images, and the inspiration generated a huge amount of buzz. Twenty of those videos were selected as finalists, and put in the running for the grand prize.
The winning video would be selected by our guest judges: Giant’s own freeride legend Jeff Lenosky, and acclaimed filmmaker Clay Porter. Picking just one winner was no easy task.
In the end, Clay and Jeff agreed with the majority of Pinkbike.com viewers. The people’s champion was their champion too. One video clearly resonated most: Supermarket Bike.
The story of Filipe Perestrelo from Portugal was beyond inspirational. Filmed by Miguel Freitas, Filipe’s video attracted more than 70,000 views in a few short weeks. More than 1,000 readers called it their favorite. So did Jeff and Clay.
“Choosing a winner out of the finalists was an extremely difficult task,” Jeff said afterward. “I'm amazed by the creativity both on the bike and behind the lens in all these videos. After watching the submissions all I want to do is get out and ride!”
Clay agreed that Filipe’s story rose to the top. “I was blown away by the production value in many of the submissions, but the story of Filipe's passion for riding regardless of quality of equipment was the clear winner in my eyes,” Clay said. “At the end of the day, the heart of filmmaking is the story—and Filipe's story grabbed and moved me more than any of the others.”
The story of Filipe, and the images of him shredding on his well-worn (and now broken) bike struck such a nerve that Giant decided to go above and beyond. Instead of just a Glory frameset, Giant is hooking Filipe up with the full set-up. A brand new Giant Glory 0 bike.
Once again, a huge thanks from Giant to Pinkbike.com and all its readers for the huge effort that went into these videos. It’s a great collection of images and stories, and we look forward to viewing them for a long time to come!
