Jenkins Wins ITU World Title!

12 września 2011

Giant-sponsored triathlete Helen Jenkins of Great Britain clinched the ITU Triathlon World Championship in Beijing Sunday. The 27-year-old finished second to New Zealand’s Andrea Hewitt in the Grand Final event, enough to earn her the title, which she last won in 2008 when it was a single-day event.

A consistent season that included a win on her home turf in London earlier this year was the key to Jenkins' success in 2011. With the win and two prior second-place finishes, she knew a podium in Beijing would earn her the title.

Battling to the front of the swim, Jenkins formed part of a 15-strong group on the bike leg on her Giant TCR Advanced SL. She fought hard to keep a gap ahead of a chase group that contained the title-threatening Barbara Riveros Diaz.

Jenkins and Hewitt then powered ahead on the run with Hewitt's gold giving her second place in the series. Jenkins clinched the title with second place while American Sarah Groff finished 10th to earn third place overall.
