CURTAIN RISES ON PRO SEASON WITH VICTORY FOR HIGH ROAD

2008 is barely three weeks old, but 25-year-old André Greipel has already
secured High Road¹s fifth victory of the season.

The German sprinter outgunned the remainder of the field in the 50 kilometre
Down Under Classic in Adelaide, Australia on Sunday - after Australia¹s
National Championships, officially regarded as the opening race of the
season for riders of all nationalities.

Greipel¹s victory - the fifth of his career - came ahead of legendary
fastman Robbie McEwen of Australia. McEwen finished in third spot, just
behind fellow Aussie Mark Renshaw and two places down on Greipel.

³It¹s my first race this season, so I couldn¹t have got off to a better
start.² Greipel commented. ³For High Road, too, it¹s good news, after our
two wins in the Australian nationals [with Adam Hansen and Oenene Wood], we
seem to have hit a winning streak in Down Under already!²

³I didn¹t do more than follow team instructions and wait in the middle of
the field until the last 400 metres.²

For Greipel, victory in the Down Under Classic is an important boost prior
to the Tour Down Under stage race, which starts on Tuesday.

³There are plenty of sprint stages in the Tour Down Under, and I¹ve shown
I¹ve got the strength to win.² Greipel commented. ³After this victory, our
team morale is sky high, too!²
