The Rabobank Cycling Team has been flying the familiar orange-and-blue colors of its title sponsor, an international financial services provider, for 16 years. Over that time, the Netherlands-based team has collected more than 500 pro wins.
Giant has been partners with Rabobank since 2009. Over the last four years, the team has won grand tours, classics and dozens of stages at major races around the world. The team races on the Giant TCR Advanced SL and Defy Advanced SL bikes, helping steer the development of Giant's cutting-edge road bike technologies.
The 2012 squad is a balanced blend of experience and young talent, stage racers and single-day threats. Bunch finishes will be made interesting by the acquisition of Aussie speedster Mark Renshaw, who served as the top leadout man for World Champion Mark Cavendish the past few seasons.
Returning riders this year include GC leader Robert Gesink, who spent the off-season recovering from a broken femur he suffered in a training crash; Spaniard Luis Léon Sanchez, who won the Clasica San Sebastian in 2010; and Lars Boom, who won the Tour of Britain last year.
Last season marked the arrival of several new young talents, including 24-year-old Steven Kruijswijk, who was third overall at the Tour de Suisse and ninth at the Giro d'Italia. Also emerging as a top stage racer last year was Bauke Mollema. The 25-year-old Dutchman was fourth overall at the Vuelta a España last year. Both Kruijswijk and Mollema will race the Tour de France for the first time this year.
Rabobank's status among the world's top road racing teams makes it a perfect fit for Giant. With a pedigree of champions and a diverse roster of stage racers, sprinters, climbers and classics specialists, the team plays a major role in Giant's efforts to create, develop and test innovative new products at the highest levels of competition.
