Australian Mark Renshaw finished his first race with the Rabobank Cycling Team on a high note, scoring a podium finish in Sunday’s Tour Down Under finale in Adelaide.
Renshaw, acquired by the team before the start of the 2012 season, is one of the fastest sprinters in pro cycling. He showed that speed Sunday, when he found his way to the front of the field on his Giant TCR Advanced SL and finished second, just behind German André Griepel, in the 90km Stage 6 circuit race.
Another Australian Rabobnak rider, 21-year-old Michael Matthews, was the team’s top GC finisher in the opening race of the 2012 UCI WorldTour. Matthews, who climbed as high as second overall during the weeklong race, ended up finishing ninth overall.
