Rabo-Giant Goes 1-2 in Houffalize

Van der Heijden, the 2010 Junior World Champion, is already winning international Under-23 races.

Rabobank-Giant riders Michiel van der Heijden and Henk Jaap Moorlag dominated the Under-23 race at Sunday’s Houffalize Mountain Bike Cup race in Belgium, finishing first and second ahead of an international field. Both rode their Giant XtC Advanced SL hardtail race bikes.

Van der Heijden and Moorlag, both from The Netherlands, stand atop the international list of up-and-coming XC talent—the former is the current Junior World Champion, the latter was the No. 1 UCI ranked rider in U23 competition last year.

Adding to the impressive showing by Rabobank-Giant’s young guns, elite rider Fabian Giger of Switzerland finished sixth in the pro men’s race. The race in Houffalize, a classic stop on the World Cup XC circuit, featured many of the world’s top World Cup racers. The 2011 World Cup kicked off last week in South Africa and continues May 21-22, with round 2 in Great Britain.
