Van Emden takes the Win

Jos Van Emden led the Rabobank team to a dominant performance at the June 16 prologue stage of the Ster Elektrotoer stage race in The Netherlands. Van Emden rode his Giant Trinity Advanced SL time trial bike to a winning time of 7:42 on the 6.8-kilometer course, while his teammates Lars Boom and Sebastian Langeveld finished second and third.

The win was Van Emden’s second in less than a week—the 25-year-old also won the prologue stage at last week’s Delta Tour Zeeland, which was his first pro victory.

Boom, who finished 3 seconds off Van Emden’s winning time, is fine-tuning his form before the Tour de France in July. In addition to the three podium finishers, Rabobank riders also finished fifth (Pieter Weening) and eighth (Graeme Brown).

With five riders placed high in the standings, Rabobank will attempt to defend the General Classification lead in the coming days. The Ster Elektrotoer race continues with a 146-kilometer road race on Thursday, and runs through Sunday, June 20.
