Sanchez Wins San Sebastian!

14 August 2012

Rabobank rider Luis León Sánchez won the San Sebastian Classic Tuesday, attacking inside the final 10km to win the Spanish classic for the second time in his career. It was the seventh win of the season for the 28-year-old Spaniard, who is having one of the best seasons of his career.

Sanchez launched a daring attack after the final climb of the 234km race, going clear on his Giant TCR Advanced SL. He gained a small advantage over a group of chasers including Australian Simon Gerrans and Belgian Gianni Meersmen, and held them off over the final kilometers.

For Sanchez, it was a repeat performance of 2010, when he won San Sebastian for the first time. His Rabobank teammates played a key role in Tuesday's victory, setting him up for the final move. Sanchez’s teammate Bauke Mollema finished fifth, making it two Rabobank riders in the top-five.
