The All-New Liv/giant Envie Advanced

Liv/giant Introduces Envie Advanced Aero Road Bike!

January 21, 2013

Liv/giant, the cycling brand dedicated to female riders, today unveiled the world’s first aerodynamic road bike created specifically for women. The Envie Advanced was created with input from Olympic and World Champion Marianne Vos and designed for serious road racers and triathletes.

The lightweight Envie Advanced frame is handcrafted with Advanced-Grade Composite using AeroSystem Shaping technology. Each tube shape and junction was analyzed with Computational Fluid Dynamics research, wind-tunnel testing and athlete feedback to maximize the overall aerodynamic performance of rider and bike.

The AeroSystem Shaping process reflects a belief by Liv/giant engineers that any single frame modification should be made not in isolation but with an eye toward how it affects key overall system performance factors including weight, stiffness and aerodynamics.

“The Envie Advanced is in a category of its own,” said Liv/giant product developer Abby Santurbane. “We took the results of wind tunnel testing to create the overall aero shape of the frame, and then applied Liv/giant’s proven women’s fit concepts.”

Liv/giant’s 3F (Fit, Form, Function) philosophy ensures ideal fit and performance for the female cyclist. A shorter toptube and taller headtube differentiate the Envie Advanced from other aero road bikes on the market, making it not just the fastest women’s bike available, but also much more versatile.

“The geometry ensures that women are not just efficient while pedaling, but are also balanced for improved bike handling and performance,” said Santurbane. “The result is a unique aero bike that is amazingly fast on the flats, yet is still efficient while climbing, and easy to handle on descents.”

The Envie Advanced also uses a women’s-specific composite layup schedule to deliver optimized pedaling stiffness and efficiency as well as a smooth ride quality.

“I was looking for a bike that gives me an aero advantage, that allows me to break away and sprint,” said Vos, captain of the Rabobank-Liv/giant women’s pro road team. “The Envie Advanced is exactly what I was looking for.”

Other new technologies applied to the Envie Advanced include its proprietary integrated SpeedControl SLR brake system. The composite reverse-position front brake and seatstay-mounted rear brake feature strategic positioning and specially designed trailing edges that help reduce overall wind drag. And the all-new Contact SLR Aero Integrated handlebar and stem unit further improves front-end stiffness, control and aerodynamic performance.
