Boom Wins Eneco Tour!
12 August 2012
Lars Boom of the Rabobank team rode a brilliant final stage of the Eneco Tour Sunday to come from behind and win the weeklong ProTour event in Belgium and The Netherlands.
Boom trailed overall leader Svein Tuft by 4 seconds before the start of Sunday’s Stage 7, a grueling 207.7km race from Maldegem to Geraardsbergen in the southern Ardennes of Belgium. The 26-year-old Dutchman rode aggressively, tackling the Muur van Geraardsbergen three times on his Giant TCR Advanced SL and finishing a close second on the day behind Italian Alessandro Ballan.
For Boom, the six-time Dutch Men’s Cyclocross Champion, winning a WorldTour race that passed through his home nation marked the high point so far in this 2012 road season.
