23 október 2011

Rabobank-Giant cyclocross rider Lars van der Haar won the opening round of the Under-23 World Cup series in Tabor, Czech Republic, Sunday.

Wearing the World Champion’s rainbow jersey, the 20-year-old van der Haar opened his 2011-2012 World Cup campaign in dominating form. Riding his Giant TCX Advanced SL, he attacked midway through the race and rode off the front alone, leaving the other contenders to battle for second place.

Van der Haar cruised to a winning margin of 44 seconds over Italian Elia Silvestri, while his fellow Rabobank-Giant rider Mike Teunissen, also from The Netherlands, scored the third-place points.

In the elite men’s category, Rabobank-Giant rider Bart Aernouts led the charge, finishing seventh. Tabor marked the second round of the World Cup at the elite level, and with two consecutive seventh-place finishes, Aernouts is solidly placed in the top-10 overall. His teammate Gerben de Knegt finished 18th on the day.
