Rabobank-Giant Off-Road team riders Bart Aernouts and Lars van der Haar got off to a strong start in the Superprestige series, which kicked off Sunday in Belgium. Aernouts finished second in the elite men’s race, and van der Haar was third in the U-23 race.

Meanwhile, representing the women’s side of the team, American Katie Compton had a great start to her ’cross season, scoring a win and a second-place finish in a double-race weekend in the U.S. Gran Prix.

Aernouts' second-place finish on his Giant TCX Advanced SL showed he’s in great from early in the season. The Belgian led the race by as much as 30 seconds before he was chased down by eventual winner Niels Albert. It was a close battle to the finish, with Aernouts crossing the line 6 seconds back.

Van der Haar, who already has a handful of wins this season, also started his Superprestige series with a podium finish. The defending U23 World Champion finished the day third behind Belgian winner Wietse Bosmans and fellow Dutch rider Timjen Eising.

In the U.S., America’s national cyclocross series hit the midway point of its eight-race schedule with rounds 3 and 4 in Fort Collins, Colorado. Compton and the other riders faced opposite course conditions in the back-to-back races—the first day was wet, muddy and cold; day two was warmer and dryer with a faster course.

Compton, who started her ’cross season a little later than some of her U.S. competitors, showed why she’s a multi-time national and World Cup champion. She finished day one in second, behind Czech national champion Katerina Nash, and then powered her TCX Advanced SL to the win on day two.

“It felt really good to win today and I’m happy to get my first one of the season,” Compton told Cyclingnews.com.
