Rogers, Arndt Ride Giant to Top-10 TT Finishes in Beijing

Michael Rogers and Judith Arndt, each riding Giant prototype time trial bikes, scored top-10 finishes in Olympic time trial races in Beijing on Wednesday.

Rogers, a three-time world time trial champion who was racing for the Australian squad, finished eighth, 2:35 behind gold medalist Fabian Cancellara of Switzerland. It was the second top-10 finish in the Beijing Games for Rogers—he also finished sixth in the men’s road race on Saturday.

Swede Gustav Larsson won the men’s silver medal and American Levi Leipheimer took bronze in the 47-kilometer men's time trial held in hot, muggy conditions.

Arndt, a German who also races for Team Columbia, finished 1:08 behind women’s winner Kristin Armstrong of the U.S. team. The women’s field of 25 riders competed on a 23.5-kilometer course.

Both Rogers and Arndt raced on prototype Giant time trial bikes that were also ridden by Team Columbia riders in the 2008 Tour de France.

Olympic cycling now moves to the velodrome, with qualifying events starting Friday at the Laoshan Velodrome. Visit the Giant web site to follow Giant and Team Columbia riders, including Tour de France sensation Mark Cavendish, as they go for gold.
