‘Giant’ Bicycle Sponsor ‘Giant’ Slalom at Crankworx

VANCOUVER, BC August 5, 2008- Giant Bicycle will be the title sponsor for the inaugural Giant Slalom event at Crankworx Whistler.

On the evening of Friday August 15, 2008, top ranked competitors will race first against the clock, then each other as they race to Whistler Village through the bowels of the Boneyard Slopestyle Course.

“We’re thrilled to be sponsoring this brand new event”, states Randy Pye, Marketing Manager for Giant Canada. “With the Giant Slalom taking place the night before Slopestyle, it should make for exciting back-to-back evening events for all competitors and spectators. And hey, the name of the event is perfect for our involvement too!”

Athletes will initially complete a 2-run Time Trial to determine overall qualifying and seeds. After that they’ll compete in a 2-run head-to-head differential-time elimination race to advance to the next round of competition.

Categories will cover nearly all age and skill levels ranging from Junior Women and Boys 13-15 right through to the Pro Men’s and Women’s classes.

Look for Giant’s own Pro Mountain Bike Team members Jared Rando and Amiel Cavalier to compete for the $6,500 purse.

The Giant Bicycle Expo Booth will also be set up at Mountain Square in Whistler Village throughout the duration of Crankworx which runs from August 9- 17, 2008.
