Vos Podiums at Fleche-Wallonne Feminine

Marianne Vos of the Rabobank Women’s Team defended her overall lead in the UCI Women’s World Cup series with a gutsy podium finish at Wednesday’s Fleche-Wallonne Feminine race in Belgium.
Vos, the team leader and four-time winner at Fleche-Wallonne, powered her TCR Advanced SL to second place after reeling in a breakaway before the Mur de Huy, the steep climb at the finish of the 123km race in the Ardennes. American Evelyn Stevens, who had a teammate in the break, came into Mur with fresher legs, and edged Vos out for the win.
The second-place finish allowed Vos to maintain a healthy lead in the World Cup after four rounds.
In the men’s Fleche-Wallonne, also held Wednesday, Rabobank rider Bauke Mollema had his first-ever top-10 finish at the midweek Ardennes Classic. Mollema, a proven stage race talent who is also developing as a one-day threat, finished seventh behind the day’s winner, Joaquim Rodriguez of Spain.
