Decker Repeats at Downieville!

11 جوييه 2011

Giant Factory Off-Road Team rider Carl Decker kept his win streak alive at the Downieville Classic in California, winning the All-Mountain World Championship for the second straight year. In women’s racing, Decker's teammate Kelli Emmett won the XC race and finished second in the All-Mountain competition.

Decker rode his Giant Anthem X 29er to victory in the unique festival event, where All-Mountain competitors must choose one bike that’s best suited for a combined Saturday XC race and Sunday Super D race.

“The Anthem X 29er was loaded for bear,” Decker said. “Big brakes, big bars, big tires, big fork, seat dropper, and still only 26.4 pounds. I always come away from Downieville amazed at how a bike can stand up to that kind of abuse. That is some fast and gnarly trail.”

Decker won the 26-mile XC race on Saturday by nearly 4 minutes. He was edged out by Aaron Bradford in the following day’s 17-mile DH race by just 5 seconds, a result that landed Decker the All-Mountain world title for another year.

“I almost got that DH win too but I took a little crash in the waterfall section and did an underwater push-up,”  said the Bend, Oregon, resident. “I was really trying to win the DH this year. But I got the XC and the All-Mountain title.”

For the women's competition, Emmett chose to race the Giant Trance X Advanced SL. The Coloradan won the pro women’s XC on Saturday and finished second in Sunday’s Super D after suffering a twisted chain. The combined times put Emmett second overall in the All-Mountain category, behind another Giant rider Lizzy English, who rides for the regional Giant-Northstar team.
