Bracht Wins ETU Long Distance Crown!

10 julio 2012

Giant-sponsored triathlete Timo Bracht captured the ETU Long Distance European Championship on Sunday with a second-place finish at the Challenge Roth event in Germany. Bracht battled with South African James Cunnama and eventually finished second with a time of 8:03:28, winning the ETU crown as the top European finisher.

Riding his Giant Trinity Advanced SL, Bracht was one of five riders chasing early leader Konstantin Bachor on the 180km bike leg. Entering the bike-run transition, it was down to a group of three—Bracht, Cunnama and Swiss athlete Mike Aigroz—in pursuit of Bachor.

On the 42.2km run, Bracht and Cunnama quickly gained time on Bachor. They passed the German and battled each other the rest of the way. Bracht said he suffered some stomach problems in the final kilometers but held on to take the European Long Distance Championship, adding it to his two Ironman Europe titles.
