Vos Wins Holland Ladies Tour!
September 10, 2012
Olympic gold medalist Marianne Vos of the Rabobank Women’s Team added another major win to her incredible 2012 season, taking the final stage and the overall title at the Holland Ladies Tour, a six-day stage race that concluded near Limburg Sunday. It was Vos’s fourth consecutive win at the biggest women’s stage race in The Netherlands.
Vos took the overall honors by winning the final stage on her TCR Advanced SL. She started Sunday’s final stage, the Queen’s stage through South Limburg, in second place overall, 24 seconds behind German Charlotte Becker of the Specialized-lululemon team. The Olympic champ went on the attack, joined by Becker’s teammate Evelyn Stevens, who was further down in the GC. The two frontrunners gapped the rest of the field, and Vos won the sprint at the line to take the overall win.
“I’m very happy with this win,” Vos said. “In Dutch stage races you have to give it your best, you cannot relax at any time.”
Vos's Rabobank team put in a solid team time trial on the second stage of the race, finishing third but conceding 57 seconds to Specialized-lululemon. Vos spent the rest of the week trying to gain back time. She won Stage 4, and then finished off the winning effort in the final stage.
The Rabobank Women's team will stay in Limburg, site of the upcoming 2012 UCI Road World Championships, to prepare. Competition kicks off next weekend, and lasts through September 23.
