Rabobank-Giant Dominates Cyprus Finale!

March 5, 2012

It was a busy weekend for the Rabobank-Giant Off-Road Team, with riders competing at early-season XC races in Europe and the U.S. Highlights included a dominating team showing in Cyprus and a podium finish in Austin, Texas.

Swedish National Champion Emil Lindgren led the final race of the Cyprus Sunshine Cup start to finish. Racing his Giant XtC Advanced SL, Lindgren escaped off the front at the end of the first lap of the seaside race in Amathous. He built up a small gap and held it to the finish, but it was team tactics that helped deliver the win.

Behind the Swede was his Swiss teammate Fabian Giger, who was in position to take the overall win in the three-race series. Giger was able to mark other chasers but didn’t have to attack with his teammate out front.

“My teammates were perfect, in the way they controlled the chasing group,” Lindgren explained after his win. “It’s great to have that start into the season, for me and for the team.”

Giger ended up finishing second, 14 seconds back, to take the overall series win. And completing the fantastic team effort was Dutch rider Henk Jaap Moorlag, who finished fifth. Both Giger and Moorlag rode XtC Composite 29ers.

Meanwhile, the U.S.-based riders Adam Craig and Katie Compton were racing at the Mellow Johnny’s Classic in Texas, the opening event of the 2012 US Pro XCT.

Compton, just a few short weeks after wrapping up her World Cup cyclocross season, had an impressive showing, finishing fourth on her XtC Advanced SL.

In the men’s race, Craig got his season off to a solid start, finishing 7th on his Anthem X 29er.
