MOUNTAIN BIKE ACTION CALLS ANTHEM X 29ER W “A FIRST OF ITS KIND”
July 5, 2012
In the August 2012 issue of Mountain Bike Action the Wrecking Crew spends some quality time shredding the famed Southern California “Backbone Trail” with Giant Factory Off-Road Team pros Carl Decker and Kelli Emmett and their weapons of choice: The 2013 Giant Anthem X Advanced 29er and Liv/giant Anthem X 29er W.
ON THE SPEC:
“Carbon Evolution: The (Anthem X) Advanced (29er) front triangle is claimed to shave 6 ounces with a 3 percent jump in stiffness over the aluminum model…the Overdrive2 headtube; along with the beefy carbon construction, makes for a front end that claimed to be 7 percent stiffer.”
ON THE RIDE:
“We were glad to find that by making the bike into a featherweight, it doesn’t give up any of its willingness to charge down rough sections at full speed. The tried and true Maestro suspension was stable when climbing even with the shock’s platform turned off, yet it remained active under heavy braking on descents” They were also impressed with the latest Liv/giant Anthem X 29er W, “…a first of its kind, offering full suspension and 29-inch wheels in a women’s-specific platform.”
PRO IMPRESSION:
“Carl Decker is a rider who knows how to make any section of trail flow. Following his line down descents we’ve done countless times, it opened our eyes to new ways of looking at the trail.” And just so you don’t think this was a boy’s only day, “…Kelli Emmett came out to ride her Anthem X 29er W under the SoCal sun and kept it pinned all day.”
