May 4: Ride Like King Day!
April 15, 2012
On May 4 Giant will celebrate its founder King Liu’s passion for cycling with its fourth annual Ride Like King Day. Giant employees, retailers and friends around the world are invited to participate in scheduled rides, or organize their own to help promote the benefits of the cycling lifestyle.
Ride Like King Day was established in 2009 as a fun way to celebrate King’s renewed passion for cycling. At age 73, after spending much of his life focused on the business of growing the Giant brand, King committed himself to the cycling life. It started with a major challenge, a 927-kilometer ride around Taiwan, and grew from there.
Over the last four years King he has dedicated much of his time to publicizing the positive virtues of the cycling lifestyle by participating in challenging rides, festivals and events in Taiwan and around the world. He has also ridden through China and in Europe as part of his Green World on Wheels initiative, bringing attention to the ways forward-thinking cycling infrastructure can improve health, reduce pollution and enhance quality of life.
King’s next challenge is an upcoming ride through Japan. He plans to ride 269km over four days through Hiroshima and Ehima, two cities with well-established cycling routes and paths. Mayors from those two cities, along with the public, will join King as he once again shines light on the benefits of cycling.
To join in and become part of King’s mission, all you have to do is get on your bike and ride May 4. To find out more about rides in your area, and to share the experiences from your own rides, please check out the Ride Like King event page on Facebook.
See you out there on the roads, paths and trails!
