Elina started riding as a kid and soon it was training for Cross Country Skiing. She made it to the junior Olympics for Finland with XC skiing and was one of the top juniors in the world before being invited to join the Nokia Adventure racing team in 2000 and cycling suddenly became a major part of her racing.

In 2005 she met Richard at a race in South Africa and later that year moved to NZ. Once in NZ she started racing Multisport and enjoyed the difference of racing solo again and having to learn new skills and had considerable success with victories in every solo race she competed in, bar the Coast to Coast which proved her nemesis until 2010 when she demolished the field by over half an hour.

It was bitter sweet though as due to torrential rain the alternative course had to be used. Elina finally prevailed on the original course in 2012 and was runner up in 2011 and 2013. Elina is looking at a range of Multisport, Adventure Racing and MTB racing over the next year. Elina’s favourite part of cycling is the speed of going downhill fast and the feeling of satisfaction at the end of long or hard rides. Elina’s passions outside of biking include fashion and art.
