Rabo-Giant Sweep at Gieten!

28 November 2011

Lars van der Haar, Stan Godrie and Mike Teunissen led a Rabobank-Giant sweep at the Under-23 race at Round 5 of the Superprestige cyclocross series in Gieten, The Netherlands, Sunday.

One day after Rabobank-Giant rider Gert-Jan Bosmans scored his first World Cup win in Koksijde, where the team took four of the top-five spots, the Dutch young guns were again dominant on their Giant TCX Advanced SL team bikes. This time it was van der Haar, the current U23 World and European Champion, taking the win on a muddy course in Gieten.

Van der Haar now leads the Superprestige series after 5 rounds. Godrie is tied for second overall, and Teunissen is fifth.

In the elite men’s race in Gieten, Belgian Bart Aernouts was the top finisher for the Rabobank-Giant team. Aernouts, who finished on the podium at the previous day’s World Cup race in Belgium, missed the early move on Sunday but bridged up to the lead group on the seventh lap. He finished the day in seventh place, maintaining his fourth-place overall Superprestige series standing.
