Compton Wins CX World Cup Opener!

16 October 2011

Rabobank-Giant cyclocross rider Katie Compton won the opening round of the women’s Cyclocross World Cup in the Czech Republic Sunday. Compton, the current U.S. national champion, rode her Giant TCX Advanced SL to a convincing win, extending her World Cup win streak to six after she won five straight last season.

After testing the lead group of contenders several times, Compton made her winning move on the fourth of six laps. Following her attack, the American held off her chasers, crossing the finish line 18 seconds ahead of Dutch rider Sanne Van Paassen and Czech national champion Katerina Nash, who finished second and third respectively.

The World Cup victory marked the second consecutive winning weekend for Compton, who also won round 4 of the U.S. Gran Prix of Cyclocross last weekend in America.

In men’s racing at Round 1 in Pizen, Rabobank-Giant rider Bart Aernouts finished seventh and Gerben de Knegt was 15th.
