Giger Podiums at World Cup #4!
21 May 2012
Rabobank-Giant rider Fabian Giger continued his rise through the ranks of the world’s elite XC racers, turning in a strong podium performance at Sunday’s UCI World Cup XC race in La Bresse, France. With a huge crowd gathered to watch the world’s best take on the technical course at La Bresse, Giger rose to the occasion, finishing fifth on his Giant XtC Composite 29er.
Crashes and flat tires ended the hopes of many on the rocky course at La Bresse, the fourth round of the 2012 World Cup, but Giger rode a smart race, moving up steadily to score the final podium spot. The finish moved Giger into sixth overall in the series, which is currently being led by his Swiss countryman Nino Schurter.
In the men’s Under-23 race, Rabobank-Giant rider Michiel van der Heijden finished sixth on his XtC Advanced SL, holding his top-five position in the overall standings. And in the elite women’s race, French Olympic hopeful Pauline Ferrand Prevot had the top finish for the Rabobank-Giant riders, finishing 13th on her XtC Composite 29er to maintain her overall series lead among U23 women.
