Jody Cundy was originally a swimmer for the GB Team before his potential as a track cyclist was spotted in 2004 during a spin at the Newport Velodrome. A year later he entered the 2005 National Championships in Manchester and broke the British record for the flying 200, catching the attention of the GB Team who offered him a place in the Team Sprint at the 2006 Paralympic World Cup, riding to a new World Record alongside Darren Kenny and Mark Bristow. He now concentrated full time on cycling.
In the summer of 2006 he won his first individual gold medal and broke the World Record at the World Track Championships in Switzerland, before going on to become the fastest solo Paralympian on a bike and winning multiple medals on the world stage. He is one of only a handful of athletes that have become Paralympic champion in two different sports. In 2009 he was made an MBE in the New Years Honours list for his services to disability sport.
His focus now is on the forthcoming Paralympic Games.
