Professional snowboarder Chris Southwell tackles Iron Man Mexico

British snowboarder Chris Southwell knows a thing or two about competitive sport – but he’s more familiar with having his feet clipped firmly into his bindings than a pair of clip-in road bike pedals. So when the 29 year old boarder decided to take on a new challenge he turned to Giant.

Chris who is a type 1 diabetic is confident that with Giant’s support he will be able to complete this November’s Iron Man Mexico and he knows what it takes to put mind over matter and overcome obstacles to success as he follows the snow around the globe in pursuit of his career as a professional freeride snowboarder.

Posting for his blog Chris explains;

“…this year I am doing my 1st ever Iron Man in Mexico. With Diabetes I find that if you have the right control, determination, positive outlook and attitude you can achieve anything you want.”

Chris recently made a flying visit to London from his base in Sweden and visited the Giant Store Twickenham where he was measured up for his bike. He will be riding the Giant TCR Advanced with Giant Connect SL clip-on aero bars to improve his aero performance and will wear a Giant Ares helmet.

Keep up to date with Chris’ blog and watch the video of his bike fitting at whatsyourlifelike.com and follow the challenge on Facebook. Chris is sponsored by Dare2b, Bayer, Bolle, Verbier Sport+, Farinet Hotel Verbier, Allian Snowboards, Shyman Clothing, Yoki Hats and Demon Protective Wear.
