Grant & Calum with their Giant Defy Advanced 1's
1250 milles in 10 days for RAF charity
Grant Smith and Calum Parker recently completed their Ride for RAFA which saw them leave Marham and ride 1250 miles in 10 days, visiting 17 RAF stations before returning to be greeted by a crowd of well wishers.
Supported by Cleveland Cycles who provided mechanical support and spares the pair trained on Giant Defy’s which helped them fly through the miles, before switching to the Giant Defy Advanced 1’s for even greater comfort and efficiency during the final training push and the ride itself.
The final leg of their journey saw them take a slight detour to King’s Lynn where they were greeted by the Deputy Mayor of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk. Following a small reception they headed back to Marham where their journey began 10 days earlier.
Grant Smith said “What a special journey…it was a roller coaster ride with some really high points and some definite lows. To be greeted by the Deputy Mayor and to be presented with a certificate of thanks in the Town Hall was fantastic. There were so many thoughts and memories of the past 2 weeks going through my mind on the journey back to Marham. The highlights for me were riding across the Forth Road Bridge and the Snowdonia National Park. Also the support we received from the public was very touching and made us proud to be in the RAF.
It was overwhelming to see the support as we were greeted by a crowd of people welcoming us home at the gates of Marham and it was so nice to see my family again, this is certainly something I will never forget. We have so many people to thank for their support throughout the challenge”
The duo hoped to raise £10,000 for the Royal Air Force Association charity, a target which they achieved shortly after completing the ride. You can read more about their journey at www.RideForRAFA.co.uk
