RICHARD PARKS MAKES HISTORY
|
Richard Parkes made history on Tuesday as he summited Mt Ebrus in Russia
World’s first for Rugby star as he completes 737 challenge
Former Wales and Barbarians Rugby Union star Richard Parks made history on Tuesday as he reached the summit of Mount Ebrus in Russia to become the first ever person to stand on the highest mountain on all of the worlds continents as well as all 3 poles (The North Pole, The South Pole & summit of Mt Everest).
In an incredible time of 6 months, 11 days, 7 hours and 53 minutes Richard stepped into the record books in an effort to raise £1m for Marie Curie Cancer Care. The challenge has consumed Richard for 2 years since he was forced to quit professional rugby due to injury in May 2009.
Richard, who rode a Giant Defy and Giant Anthem X during his pre-expedition training had a roller coaster ride over the course of the challenge; he suffered from frostbite after summiting Everest, defied death on Denali after falling down a crevasse and was delayed by fuel strikes in Antarctica.
Richard will be returning home on Tuesday 19th July 2011 at the Senedd, Cardiff at 4pm so it’s your chance to head along and pay tribute to a living legend!
