"One of the best all-round framesets ever created" - Giant Defy Advanced
February 7, 2013
Triathlon Plus Magazine loved the Giant Defy Advanced back in 2012 - so when they rode the 2013 Giant Defy Advanced 2 for their £2000 endurance road bike test in the March issue, testers wondered if the latest incarnation of Giant's carbon endurance road bike could re-capture that same magical ride.
Up against big hitters in the form of the Trek Madone 3.1, Felt Z5 and the Bianchi Sempre Pro Veloce - Giant Defy Advanced would need to produce a special ride to retain it's Tri Plus crown.
Giant has poured years of development work at it's C-Tech facility into the latest line-up of Advanced Composite carbon road bikes, taking raw Toray T-700 carbon filament, weaving it into carbon fibre swatches in-house before hand building the frames following a custom layup schedule. And Triathlon Plus recognised this exceptional unique quality that lives and breathes in the Defy Advanced.
"The new Advanced chassis is quite simply one of the best all-round framesets ever created"
The proof is in the ride and testers noted the front end steering and pedalling stiffness combined with unrivalled road vibration absorption that shone through during the test. Built around Giant's Compact Road design and featuring endurance geometry, Defy is the ride the Giant Pro riders turn to when they are racing long distances and for the less than forgiving surfaces of the Spring Classics.
With a stunning 4.5 stars the Defy Advanced was the clear winner and received the Triathlon Plus Gold Award.
