Awesome Strathclyde performance, Madrid next target

Giant Triathlete Helen Jenkins confirmed her recovery from a recent crash in Sydney, with a victory in this weekend’s GE 2011 Strathclyde Park Triathlon, the first race in the 2011 Super Series.

Fighting off tough competition from Elite junior Lucy Hall and 2010 British Triathlon Super Series Champion Jodie Stimpson, Helen proved she is in great form ahead of the Dextro ITU World Triathlon Championship race in Madrid on June 5th.

A strong swim was turned into a commanding lead during the bike leg as Jenkins worked with Hall to build a gap over the rest of the field, before pulling away on the run to take the victory.

Speaking after the race Helen said;

“That was a tough day, I’ve got a lot of respect for all the competitors today, it was so cold and windy. I knew Lucy Hall was a really fast swimmer so I tried to get close to her halfway through the swim. We worked together on the bike and because she’s a lot better technically than I am, I tried to get on her wheel for the technical sections. It really helped having her there!”

Helen who races on a Giant TCR Advanced SL road bike has now established an early lead in the 2011 British Triathlon Super Series.
