|
London victory moves Jenkins closer to London 2012
Giant Triathlete Helen Jenkins took an emphatic win today at the Hyde Park Triathlon in London, Round 5 of the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series. She now moves up to 4th in the World Championship Series as leader Barbara Riveros Diaz finished 12th and Canadian Paula Findlay who has been struggling with injury recently finished in 29th place, now just ahead of Helen in the Series.
Racing was close in the water and a big group came out of the swim together and stayed close throughout the bike leg, which saw 2008 World Champion Helen ride her Giant TCR Advanced SL round 7 laps including a spin by Buckingham Palace. She then powered ahead in the run to seal the victory.
The Hyde Park Triathlon served as an Olympic test event and importantly provided Helen with qualification points so she is now almost certain to feature in next years Olympics with the Team GB.
Today's win was Helen's third successive Hyde Park podium and her first win of the new World Championship Series.
