GREAT BRITISH BIKE RIDERS ARRIVE IN GIANT STYLE

GBBR Riders celebrate arriving at Twickenham Stadium
Riders arrive at Twickenham for lap of honour

The first Great British Bike Ride, sponsored by Lexus, arrived at Twickenham Stadium last Saturday after a 4 day exhausting, but exhilarating journey from Lands End. 150 Riders blazed a trail though the West Country focussed on achieving their personal challenges and raising £89,000 so far for Help 4 Heroes and Injured Rugby Players.

Stretched to the limit by the daunting climbs and relentless pressure, the participants embraced a common purpose and forged an amazing team, all determined to reach the Mecca of English rugby. This being a challenge, not a race, everybody was included in a celebratory lap of honour round the hallowed Twickenham turf at half time, with 12 lucky riders riding into the stadium on Giant TCR 1’s prepared by the nearby Giant Store Twickenham, during the Wasps v Harlequins, London Double Header. Their enthusiasm was ably supported by event ambassador, Richard Hill MBE and a formidable group of volunteers who worked relentlessly to ensure that all the riders achieved their objectives.

Tired and weary, the riders and volunteers entered the stadium and received an awesome and emotional reception from the crowd, who rose to cheer their efforts and applaud their achievement. The Twickenham welcome was the icing on the cake after a hugely successful inaugural event and there is no question that the Great British Bike Ride has not only arrived as a major event on the cycling sportive calendar, but is here to stay.
