Giant Takes 3 in Bicycling Mag Awards

Bicycling magazine editors named the Avail Advanced 1 the best women's road bike, giving Giant the nod in this category for the third straight year.

Giant topped all other manufacturers in the 2011 Bicycling Magazine Editors’ Choice Awards, winning three of the eight major road bike categories featured in the magazine’s extensive annual review of the best bikes on the market. Giant was the only brand to win multiple categories, and the three it won this year surpassed its two awards in 2010.

Proving its commitment to developing the most innovative women’s products, Giant won the Best Women’s Road Bike for the third consecutive year. This time it was the Avail Advanced 1 taking top honors, with Bicycling editors praising the bike's versatility and Giant's attention to women’s-specific ergonomic design.

Giant also repeated in the Entry Level Road category, with the Defy 2 winning for the second consecutive year. Editors cited the bike’s stable handling and comfortable, upright positioning as key factors in choosing Defy 2 once again.

Adding one more win to the two it scored last year, Giant also took home the Plush Bike category with the Defy Advanced 1. Test editors reported the Defy Advanced 1 featured "the most spirited ride quality” of the other top contenders, and described it as “particularly smooth.”

The Editors’ Choice awards were presented at a bicycle industry party on April 15 at the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, California. Bicycling is the world’s highest-circulation consumer cycling publication, and its Editors’ Choice awards are considered highly influential in the eyes of its readers and the cycling industry.

Bicycling editors narrowed the competition down from thousands of bikes to a small number of finalists. All of the Editors’ Choice winners are profiled in a slideshow on Bicycling.com and will also be featured In the June issue of the magazine.
