Carlson, Emmett Top-10 at Enduro World Series Opener
May 20, 2013
Australian Josh Carlson and American Kelli Emmett led the Giant Factory Off-Road Team with top-10 finishes at the first-ever race of the Enduro World Series over the weekend in Punta Ala, Italy. Carlson and Emmett are both targeting the top enduro events around the world this year—and they got off to a strong start in Italy.
Carlson piloted a prototype Giant bike with 27.5-inch wheels to a 10th-place finish at the two-day event. Racing against a deep field with riders ranging from downhill world champions to XC pros, he handled the format well and rode consistently during four stages held over two days.
Emmett, riding a Liv/giant prototype with 27.5-inch wheels, finished seventh among the women.
"It was my first-ever European enduro race, and it was everything I expected and more," Emmett said. "It rained pretty heavily the few days prior to the event, so morning conditions were pretty wet and slippery for the first stage of the morning. But as the day proceeded, conditions improved. I was pretty pleased with my result but looking forward to DH training and improving results for the rest of the series."
More than 500 riders from around the world participated in this highly anticipated opener to the World Enduro Series, which consists of seven races in Europe and North America this summer.
