GWR TEAM WINS ON TWO CONTINENTS

David Sinclair continued his winning streak recently week with 2 wins; at the velodrome track race in Newport and then along with his fellow teammates Dan Smith, Nic Tilling, Sam Redding and Peter Kench, took third place in the Roy thame Cup last Saturday in Charndon, Oxfordshire.

The GWR team were in action in Thruxton this weekend, for the circuit race, which was the third round of the 2009 Cycling South Season Long Competition. The competing riders were Sam Redding, who is the current leader of the series, Nic Tilling, Dan Smith and Llewellyn Kinch, his first race of 2009 for the team, alongside 45 riders from other professional teams.

The race was ran at a very high pace with GWR involved in the action from start to finish. Justin Hoy of Sports Beans was the eventual victor following a sprint finish with GWR’s Kinch finishing in 9th place, and Redding finished in
17th place.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic, Elite GWR rider Neil Coleman has had a very successful run in America; winning the first round of the DWC TT series (his first official non-training race) in Durango, Colarado on March 11th. Greeted by warm temperatures with light winds, the hard track consisted of a 15km loop at an elevation of 6500ft. Coleman finished the course in a record 2:05 minutes to claim his first 2009 victory.

Last weekend, Coleman competed in another 2 professional races in Boulder, Colorado: both races lasting 75 minutes each. Competing alongside American professional squads, there were near 110 riders, all crammed onto a 1.1 km circuit-track which was no wider than a country road in the UK. Sitting in 9th wheel, Coleman attempted multiple breaks but was unable to stay away due to the speed of the race. Unfortunately, Coleman was boxed in amongst his competitors in the final sprint, but still managed to finishing an impressive 9th place.

Sunday saw Coleman make two breaks during the race and he was able to stay away for
about 10-15 minutes but was hemmed back into the fray each time. The final lap came down to a bunch sprint with a tight 90-degree turn leading up to the finishing line. Sitting comfortably in 6th wheel, Coleman suffered a setback when the rider in front of him came down hard on the final corner, forcing Coleman to brake hard and suddenly; losing him valuable time. Still, Coleman was able to salvage an 11th place ranking.

The GWR Team is sponsored in 2009 by Giant UK and Swindon Cycles Superstore and are racing on the all new 2009 Giant TCR Advanced.
