System engineered performance
Giant WheelSystems are the result of a new holistic approach to creating the best-performing wheels for every type of rider in any condition. The design philosophy behind these WheelSystems is called System Engineered Performance. It’s an evolution in engineering and a departure from conventional thinking.
Bicycle wheels have traditionally been viewed as an assembly of individual parts. Rims, hubs, spokes and other wheel parts were produced individually and then assembled to form a wheel.
That was the old way of thinking. To create Giant WheelSystems, engineers studied the ways the individual parts of a particular wheel affect each other. This research informed the overall design process, pushing Giant to develop wheel components that work together to deliver best-in-class performance. Every rim, spoke, and hub has been designed to function as a system to improve overall performance.
System-Engineered Performance considers the following factors: stiffness, aerodynamics, weight and comfort.

STIFFNESS1. A wide-flange front hub spaces the hub flanges out an additional 4mm to increase lateral stiffness. This results in quicker handling and better control. 2. Today’s drivetrains, which feature 10 or more gears on the rear cassette, can make it diffi cult to maintain optimal stiffness and strength in the rear wheel. Giant P-SLR1 and P-SL0 WheelSystems feature an asymmetric rear rim design that maintains spoke-bracing angles for better strength, stiffness and durability. |

AERODYNAMICS3. P-SLR1 Aero features ultra-light 50mm deep scandium-and-composite rims with internal-locking alloy nipples to improve aerodynamics. 4. P-SLR1 Aero hub and rim surface profi les feature smoother, streamlined surfaces for enhanced airfl ow. And the P-SLR1 Aero rim shape, width and hidden spoke nipples all help create a smoother airflow to maximize aerodynamic performance. 5. P-SLR1 Aero, P-SLR1 and P-SL0 WheelSystems feature bladed stainless steel spokes for optimized aerodynamics. All Giant WheelSystems feature 21mm rim widths for an ideal tire profi le that allows for lower PSI without increased risk of pinch fl ats.
