After several South Australian state titles I finished up BMX and had a couple of years off the bike (drunk teenager) I then discovered Mountain bikes in about 1994. In order to be able to race the Australian National MTB series you had to be a member of a bike club, so with a bunch of mates we would form our own MTB club called insideline mountain bike club, which im still a member of today. Raced Mt Buller on an old rigid shred machine in 94” and was instantly hooked.
I started taking things seriously and training and learning the craft of Downhill, winning a few state titles and winning my first National race at Elite level in 2000 at Willunga SA, the first round of the National series. With consistent top 20 results and a top 10 finish at the Oceania championships at Thredbo NSW, Whistler MTB park called in 2006, , what a place to belt the back out of some turns. Whislter was the perfect preparation for the upcoming Aussie race series. But in 2008/09 was where I would place 5th in the Elite men DH category at the Australian National MTB series two years in a row, Eagle Mountain Bike park the location, home of the National MTB champs for the past 3 years.
I have since become a dad in 2011, I have a little girl by the name of “Willow Macy Yates” who I love dearly, look out Tracy Hannah, she’s on her Giant Pre Push bike rolling already.
I’m now on a new and exciting adventure with Giant Australia running the new
Giant Cycling World bicycle store in Adelaide and loving it.
I love the fact that with Cycling there is always something new and different with every ride you do, getting out on the shred with your mates, there’s not much in the world that beats that feeling. The amount of mates I’ve made over the years is one of the best things about the culture of Bike riding. You all share that same passion and all will for the rest of your lives. Woah pretty DEEP!
Anyway I have to closed the shop and get ready for a weekend on the bike.
Go Shred people!
