Building the Nine Knights MTB Contest Course, Part II

Nine Knights Freeride Coming Soon!

August 16, 2011

The Suzuki Nine Knights mountain bike event, hosted by Giant freerider Andi Wittmann, kicks off August 21 in the Hohe Tauern National Park in Austria.

The unique freeride competition, which was inspired by the Nine Knights freeskiing event, is sponsored by Giant and will feature mountain biking’s top freeride athletes competing in a centuries-old village in Austria.

“We’ve been working hard on the trails and features and I can’t wait to finally get out there and ride them,” said Wittmann, one of Germany’s premier freeride athletes who won the best trick contest at the 2010 Vienna Air King competition. “It’s definitely going to provide a challenge to all the riders, it’s exactly the inspiration we were hoping for. It’s going to be huge!”

The world’s top riders, including Andi’s Canadian Giant teammate Kurt Sorge, plus Yannick Granieri from France, Timo Pritzl from Germany, Martin Soderstrom from Sweden and Darren Berrecloth from Canada, will face off in a series of competitions August 21-27. The contests take place on a purpose-built course known as “The Castle.”

The main event will take place August 27. The winner-take-all “Joust Tournament” is a freeride jump competition featuring a 6-meter drop tower and a 12-meter jump that will allow the world’s best freeriders every opportunity to showcase their talents.
