Liv Riders Dominate Elsy Jacobs Stage Race!
May 4, 2015
Liv riders were out in force at the 2015 Festival Elsy Jacobs, a three-day stage race in Luxembourg consisting of a prologue time trial and two road stages. Rabobank-Liv rider Anna van der Breggen took home a stage win and the overall title, while Team Liv-Plantur rider Floortje Mackaij won Sunday’s third and final stage.
For van der Breggen, a 25-year-old Dutch rider from the Netherlands, it was the second straight overall title at Elsy Jacobs. It was also her second big win of the year following her victory at La Flèche Wallonne Féminine a few weeks ago.
The final stage, a rainy 99km race in Mamer, came down to a sprint among three breakaway riders including Mackaij. The 19-year-old won the sprint on her Envie Advanced Pro to take the stage win.
“The weather was really bad from the start, and with the attacks that took place it was a real elimination race,” Mackaij said. “The team was very strong today, we were part of each escape. The sprint was a very close call. I won, by what felt like only a couple of inches, and the bunch was very close behind us.”
