Kelderman Wins Dauphiné White Jersey!

June 11, 2012

Neo-pro Rabobank rider Wilco Kelderman continued to impress in his rookie pro season with a fantastic ride at the Critérium du Dauphiné stage race in France last week. The 21-year-old Dutch rider finished in the top-10 overall and won the Young Rider classification at the eight-day stage race.

It was Kelderman’s second consecutive Young Rider win at a major stage race, following his victory at last month’s Tour of California. At the Dauphiné, he put in a strong performance the long time trial, finishing fourth in a 53.5km effort on his Giant Trinity Advanced SL.

The Dauphiné is considered a critical preparation race for the Tour de France, and Kelderman’s solid result against some of the world's best is a strong indicator of a promising future with Rabobank. Following his impressive time trial result, he held his own in the difficult Alps stages to secure eighth place in the General Classification.

“Wilco’s future does look bright,” said Rabobank team director Adri van Houwelingen. “We are definitely upbeat about how things will progress.”

The young rider is not scheduled do race any grand tours this year, and is instead now focusing on the upcoming Dutch Time Trial National Championship.
