Rabobank’s Oscar Freire has claimed his first victory of the 2010 season, outsprinting the field in the Trofeo Cala Millor at the Mallorca Challenge in Spain.

The 32-year old Spaniard -- who just a few months ago announced he’s contemplating retirement at the end of this year – beat HTC-Columbia’s Andre Greipel at the finish line. It’s the 8th time in his career that Freire has won a Mallorca Challenge stage; the last time was in 2007. Freire had a disappointing 2009. The three time world champion had only two wins the entire season.

“To begin the season with a victory always gives you motivation,” he said. “I’ve achieved a win without being in top form, so I am happy.”
