ADAM CRAIG BEST NORTH AMERICAN IN WORLD CUP RACE

(April 27, 2008) In the season’s second World Cup XC mountain bike competition in Offenburg, Germany, Team Giant’s Adam Craig placed 8th overall and proved to be the highest finishing North American in the event.

Riding the Giant XTC Advanced, Craig was two minutes and twenty-two seconds behind winner Julien Absalon of France in the Elite Men’s Cross Country race. Adam’s teammate, Oliver Beckingsale of Great Britain, placed 30th.

The race consisted of six laps of a 5.1 km mountain bike course. According to Velonews.com, Craig spent nearly a lap riding in second place.

According to the online account, “…the efforts sapped Craig of his energy, and he eventually faded to 8th. The result stands as the top finish by an American at a European World Cup since Craig’s 8th place finish at the 2006 World Cup finals in Schladming, Austria.

‘I figured shoot, I’m pretty comfortable and a top-three would sort me out for the Olympics),’ Craig said. ‘Maybe I shouldn’t have done that. But I figured I’d have to take a try.’”
