(July 2, 2007) T-Mobile Team rider Bert Grabsch has been moved onto the team’s Tour de France squad. He’s a late replacement for Giuseppe Guerini, who has been hampered by a stomach illness since the recent Tour de Suisse. Grabsch had been named as the first replacement when the team announced its TdF roster last week. At that time even though Guerini had been selected for the original nine, the Italian rider’s health left a question mark over his participation.

The 32-year-old Grabsch makes his fourth Tour de France start and his first for the T-Mobile Team. The German has been riding extremely well in recent weeks; at the Tour of Bavaria in early June he placed second in a key time trial on his way to an impressive second place in the General Classification. And just last week, he captured the German time trial title for the first time.   “Bert has been performing very solidly in the past weeks,” said the T-Mobile Team’s head of sports management Rolf Aldag. “He brings a lot of experience and is definitely a strong replacement for Giuseppe.”   The Tour de France begins July 7. The T-Mobile squad rides the Giant TCR Advanced T-Mobile Team bicycle.
