Cavalier & Emmett Get Great Results!!

(July 5, 2007) Giant MTB teammates Amiel Cavalier and Kelli Emmett both had great showings in recent races on their Giant mountain bikes.

Amiel took first place in the inaugural DH race on the just re-opened trails around Northstar Resort at Lake Tahoe. The trails were closed for nearly a year while they were being reworked. Nearly 100 competitors took part in the Gravity event. Amiel describes the competition this way:

“The field was massive over the different categories there seemed to be over a 100 riders. The Mountain was very chopped up and loose and rocky steep in places and very challenging--Just what any mountain biker wants! I struck a few problems early in the day of practice; I hit a rock with my chain ring, bending it out of shape. I was back on the track thanks to the boys in the workshop at newly opened Plaza Bikes by Giant (located in the village at Northstar).”

Amiel and colleague Jared Rando are headed to Winter Park for Crankworx Colorado the weekend of July 6, 7 and 8.  Giant XC rider Kelli Emmett returned to competition in Breckenridge, Colorado, on July 4 for the Firecracker 50, claiming 5th place in the USA Cycling marathon cross-country event. The Firecracker 50 consists of two 25-mile laps with more than 10,500 feet of vertical gain. Many points of the race are run above the 11-thousand foot level.

Kelli has been sidelined for more than a month after fracturing her forearm in a crash at the World Cup event in Offenburg, Germany, on May 26. Here’s what she says about the Firecracker 50:

“I am doing well. I was very glad I was still able to train the last weeks on my new Giant road bike... I am loving it...It has been good to get a little time at home and regroup a bit after everything that has gone on for the past few months...

The race went alright. I finished 5th… It was a pretty close race for the first 30 miles. I felt good, but descending skills were not top notch. Took is a little easier on the descents and tried to hit it on the climbs. It was great training as there was nearly 11,000 feet of climbing in 50 miles. I think it will be great prep for Nationals which are coming up in the next few weeks.”  A feature article about Kelli was published in the Colorado Springs Gazette on July 4, just before the Firecracker 50. You can read the online story at: http://www.gazette.com/sports/emmett_24414___article.html/mountain_bike.
