Taking second in the race was Regina Schleicher of Equipe Nurenberger. Third place went to Canadian Gina Grain of Team expresscopy.com. There was an altercation in the final kilometers of the women's race that reduced the field. According to cyclingnews.com, Theresa Cliff-Ryan (Verducci) got into a shoving match with Lipton's Brenda Lyons that resulted in both riders hitting the deck, taking down Colavita's Iona Wynter-Parks and Shannon Hutchison-Krupat (Aarons) in the process. The women in magenta managed to avoid crashing, setting up Teutenberg to claim her second Triple Crown.
EISEL TAKES THIRD SPOT ON PHILLY PODIUM, & CLAIMS MEN’S TRIPLE CROWN In the men's race, T-Mobile's Bernard Eisel just missed winning the final stage. But he still claimed the Triple Crown by virtue of his 2 wins earlier in the previous week in Pennsylvania. Two CSC riders timed the final sprint perfectly to edge out Eisel, and put him in third on the podium. CSC’s Juan Jose Haedo and Matthew Goss made it a one-two punch at the finish line. The 156-mile course took place under perfect conditions, 72 degrees, partly cloudy skies, and little of the humidity that plagues Philadelphia in the summer. Eisel had help near the finish from team mates Marc Cavendish and Roger Hammond in his effort to duplicate the wins he took in Reading and Lancaster. But in the end, the CSC riders managed to cross the line first. Bernard was quoted on Sunday on cyclingnews.com: "I said take it on me because I had good legs all day - but it was a bit much for me….so I have to say sorry to the team. I think Cavendish probably had the better legs. He is 100 percent sprinter and I wasted a victory." Still, it was a great day for riders in magenta in Philadelphia. Giant Bicycles is a co-sponsor of the T-Mobile Team, and both the men and women ride the Giant TCR Advanced Team T-Mobile bicycle. For more details on the race, check:
