Men's and Women's Team June Report
(June 4, 2007) Bernard Eisel and Ina Teutenberg won the first leg of the Commerce Bank Triple Crown Series in Pennsylvania. The T-Mobile Team got terrific support in their respective races from team mates.
In the men’s race on Sunday June 3, Eisel started the race with team mates Eric Baumann, Mark Cavendish, Roger Hammond, Greg Henderson and Jacob Piil. The Austrian was part of a group of riders that formed with four laps of the seven mile circuit left to go. Eisel then took off up the final climb. At the line, he just pipped Sergey Lagutin of the Navigators Insurance team. The next-placed rider, Frank Pipp of Health Net – Maxxis, was :15 seconds back.
Eisel, who also won the Tour of Algarve earlier in the spring, credited the work of his team with his win, noting two of his team mates had only just arrived from Europe in the hours before the start. “Hammond and Cavendish just arrived yesterday so they are a bit jet-lagged,” said Eisel. “Plus this is how our team works, every guy has a turn."
In the women’s race, Ina-Yoko Teutenberg launched a successful defense of her Triple Crown title from 2006 by winning the Lancaster leg. Working with team mate Kim Anderson, Teutenberg finished in a sprint finish, edging out Laura Van Gilder of Cheerwine and Catharine Powers of Aarons’ Pro Cycling. Teutenberg’s win comes just after her victory in the final stage of the Tour de L’Aude on May 27.
The men and women in Magenta ride the Giant TCR Advanced Team T-Mobile bicycle.
The Commerce Bank Triple Crown continues Thursday June 7 in Reading PA and finishes in Philadelphia on Sunday, June 10.
